Local plan update

by cllrmichaelwyatt on 19 January, 2024

Labour Councillors (Cllr Peter Moult & Cllr John Legrys) put forward an amendment to the officer’s recommendation to allow Meadow Lane to be included in the local plan which would of allocated over 400 houses to be built on our last remaining open countryside site.

Cllr Michael Wyatt said, “At the meeting, I strongly defended my previous recommendation to not include Meadow Lane which many residents in my ward and the ward of Broom Leys voted for us to deliver. Officers have put forward other potential sites which include the Broom Leys Farm site. I asked officers about other potential sites which may become available during the consultation period which could replace sites like Broom Leys farm. Officers replied by saying there are additional sites which they are currently assessing.

I made it clear that I will continue to fight tooth and nail against the Meadow Lane site being developed.

The Labour amendment was about delivering a national policy which is Mr Stamar’s housing policy to build 1 million new houses. We need to look at what happens locally not nationally. The community I represent have made it clear no to building more houses off Meadow Lane. If Labour had put forward an amendment which removed Meadow Lane and Broom Leys Farm we would have supported it but again they failed, instead they just wanted to destroy the last remaining greenfields in Castle Rock and Broom Leys.

The local plan will be going out to consultation soon. Members of the public, developers and landowners will be allowed to have their day then all representations will be considered and if needed changed.
