Alice Delemare has been chosen to stand for North West Leicestershire on behalf of the Liberal Democrats.

Alice said, “It’s an honour to stand for the Liberal Democrats in North West Leicestershire. Cllr Michael Wyatt and his colleagues have proven that Liberal Democrats can make a real difference in a positive and constructive way. Liberal Democrats are the only party that truly puts people first.

North West Leicestershire voters have been let down over the years if not decades by Labour and the Conservatives who have shown time and time again they are either out of touch or ignore the very people who put their trust in them to represent their area.

I like local Liberal Democrat councillors in North West Leicestershire believe that people are fed up with the same old parties. Liberal Democrats offer a real alternative.

Two of my key areas in this election are:

Pushing for greater protection for local green fields from unwanted and destructive development which both the other two parties continue to peddle.

The labour housing policy will impact North West Leicestershire which is already being impacted negatively by the lack of services and growing traffic congestion which will inevitably lead to more pollution. Housing must be kept in the hands of local councils. What we need is housing in the right location, and houses for young people who are struggling to find suitable and affordable accommodation. Top-down interference will only lead to chaos.

Social care is another growing issue that the other parties talk about. Our elderly deserve better and if I’m elected I would push for a better deal for our elderly and those who need care.

Liberal Democrats will ensure no one has to sell their home to pay for care by introducing free personal care, based on the model introduced by the Scottish Liberal Democrat-Labour government in 2002.”

Alice was chosen so people can vote for someone who’s a strong advocate for the environment, putting communities first and making sure everyone is given a voice.

Alice is a Senior Strategist. She has nearly 15 years of experience creating change on issues of social and environmental justice, both globally and in the UK. Alice has previously led campaigns that influenced big multinational companies on a range of issues including nutrition, plastic pollution and seafood supply chains.

Across her career she has focused on topics of climate change, sustainable development, gender equality and electoral reform. She previously worked as a caseworker for a Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament. Alice holds a degree in history from the University of Durham and a master’s degree in development studies from the University of Leeds.

Alice is also a mother to two young children and a volunteer for Campaign for Family Friendly Trains: a grassroots campaign group that wants to see dedicated space on trains for unfolded pushchairs and other changes to make it easier for families to travel on the UK rail network.

    Dear Michael,
Would Alice Delemare be able to come and speak to the community of Mount St. Bernard Abbey about the forthcoming election and answer questions for 45 minutes? Weekdays at either 9.15am or 6.45pm are the best times for us. Let me know.
    Kind regards
    Fr. JOSEPH
